The costosternal joints are located between the sternum and the ribs on the front side of the chest. Whether related to spinal deformity or trauma, these joints produce pain in the anterior chest. When manipulation, stretching, and strengthening exercises are inadequate, an injection may be recommended. Using ultrasound guidance, an injection into the costosternal joints of cortisone and anesthetic can be performed to help control inflammation, improve mobility and breathing, and decreased pain significantly.
