Whether related to spinal deformity, surgery, or trauma, sometimes patients deal with chronic rib pain that cannot be relieved with conservative treatments. If this is the case, alternative procedures to address rib pain targeting the sensory intercostal nerves may be considered. Using ultrasound guidance nerve blocks with anesthetic and/or cortisone can be safely performed in clinic. Additionally, radiofrequency ablation (see radiofrequency ablation) of the intercostal nerves can be performed for more lasting relief.
